Apple Id Two Step Verification

How secure, are our devices?  Really?  If the "bad guys" can hack into the likes of big box retailers like Home Depot and Target, just to name a few, how safe is the information in our iPhone(s), or iPad(s) or iCloud?  Don't think for a minute that we all haven't asked ourselves this question.  I certainly have.  Simply put, it's only as safe as we make it.  Ok, show of hands here, how many of you save your passwords in either the Notes App, or perhaps in contacts, or some other insecure location?  It's ok, you're not alone.  That doesn't make it ok though!  Recently Apple took steps to help make our content more secure if our devices happen to get lost or stolen, implementing what is called Two-Step Verification.

Two-Step Verification is quite easy to set up, and I recommend it for everyone who raised there hand regarding where your passwords are saved...:).  As well as everyone else!  Ok, how does one go about setting up Two-Step verification?  Start by opening your browser of choice and navigating to the following web site:  http://id.apple.com.  Once there, you'll click the Manage your Apple ID button, and sign in with the Apple ID you use for iCloud.

After signing in, you'll be brought to the following screen.  On the left, under "Edit your Apple ID", the second option is Password and Security.  Click on that, then on the right side, you'll see "Manage your security settings." Just below that, Two Step Verification Setup (mine says enabled).

Follow the steps to set up Two-Step Verification and you'll be adding a huge security blanket for your personal iCloud content.  You choose a trusted device that a text can be sent to, so if someone steals your account info, they still can't get into your content without having your trusted device.  And if they happen to steal your trusted device, they won't be able to access the code sent to the device, without the iPhone or iPads security code.

All in all, its a great way to further lock down your devices and make them as safe as currently possible.  The setup only takes a few minutes, but it will give you piece of mind that will be worth a million dollars!

So what are you waiting for, get moving...:).  If you have any questions, please email or text me.  Until next time, have fun doing the Two-Step!
